Postaday #22 “Typical Questions”

When people find out what you do for a living, what is the most typical question that they are likely to ask you regarding your job?

I am an elementary school teacher and the most typical question I get is:

Do you like what you do? I do. I like working with children and I especially enjoy seeing them learn and grow. I have a student from Guatemala and he is in the process of acquiring English and I have been working with him one on one (I have a student teacher so I am out of the classroom while she has full control) and he is making a great deal of progress in such a short time. In the 4th grade students learn their multiplication facts to 12 and learn long division so they can be ready to go to the 5th grade. Writing, science, social studies and reading are also a part of the curriculum I teach. Another part of my job is  to deal with parents who are unable or unwilling to help their children and it is frustrating; but I always remember that I am at school for the children.

Postaday #21 “Little River Band”

I am a product of the 1970’s and I love the Little River Band (or LRB for those in the know) and “Reminiscing” is one of my all time favorite songs. Put on your polyester suit or kicky wrap skirt and click here  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2Y77pblrqY – enjoy!

Postaday #19 “Greatest Lesson”

Chat Pack Question #27:

What is the greatest lesson in life you have ever learned?

One of the greatest lessons in life I have learned is that it’s okay when you don’t get what you really wanted, because there’s usually something better for you down the road. I’m not saying that knowing or believing that makes it easier to deal with the disappointment but I have found it to be true for me.

Postaday #18 “Highlight of My Life”

Hello! Another Chat Pack Question for today:

Aside from any family occurrence (marriage, special anniversary, birth of a child, etc.) what event or accomplishment would you consider to be the highlight of your life thus far?

The highlight of my life so far was almost twelve years ago when I finished my student teaching and found a job two weeks later at an elementary school. I checked my messages at home and there was one requesting that I call the principal I interviewed with the day before. I called Mrs. R. and when she offered me the job and of course said yes! I had to call her back because I was so excited and I couldn’t stop jumping for joy. I knew that everything was going to be okay because I had a job in a field that I loved (and I still love it!).

Postaday #17 “Perfect Temperature”

Yet another Chat Pack question for the day:

If the daytime high temperature had to be exactly the same every day of the year, what would you want the temperature to be?

75 degrees is the perfect Boston Terrier weather- not too hot and the dogs will stay comfortable when I take them on walks. Perfect!

Postaday #16 My Dad

My Dad in the 1940s (hes the boy in front)

One of my favorite movies is Big Fish directed by Tim Burton. Many parts of this movie reminded me of my Dad. I believe this particular quote captures exactly how my Dad lived his life:

Will Bloom: A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him, and in that way he becomes immortal.

Postaday #15- 5 things

Today’s Chat Pack question:  If you were making a list of the five things (not people!) that make you happiest in your life, what five things would you write down?

Hmmm… let me think:

1. Strawberry Music Festival- there are tons of people there, but the vibe is just so nice and I get to sleep under my favorite tree for 4 nights.

2. My dogs and cats- they are my buddies and they make me happy!

3. Writing stories- both fiction and nonfiction.

4. The neighborhood I live in- the street that I live on has 8 houses on it and it is very quiet.

5. Going to the movies- I love the movies and the different points of views and experiences they show (especially movies directed by Wes Anderson).

Postaday #14- “Daily Delivery”

Today’s question from my Chat Pack deck is:

If, like the newspaper or milk, you could have anything of your choice delivered to your doorstep every morning, what particular item would you want it to be?

I would be so excited when I opened my door every morning and found lunch waiting for me on my doorstep! I don’t need anything fancy- just a sandwich or a salad, maybe soup on winter days. It would be one less to worry about in my rush to get to work and I would get to enjoy a nice lunch.

Postaday #13 Book

Today’s question from the Chat Pack is: If you were to write a book, what would you choose as the topic?

This is a very timely question for me because I have already written part of a children’s book about Rosalee Parmer who is a bee charmer in the 1940’s. I have the characters, setting, problem and solution- but I just need to finish it. Starting today, I am dedicating myself to 1,000 words a day until it is completed. Please email me at 52postcards@gmail.com to check up on my progress! More typing and less Unsolved Mysteries!
